Technical Author   

Reporting to:  Software Project Manager

Location:  Reading

Objective:
To produce, support and maintain online help and associated collateral for Vero Software’s market leading CAD/CAM products to agreed plans and specifications.

Job Dimensions:    
The job entails developing strong relationships with all key stakeholders within the business, making a contribution towards direction for product development and collaborating with team members on development and problem areas that will bring commercial benefits to the organisation.

Responsibilities:

• Define, design , create and manage the online help and other technical collateral
• Technical writing, generating online and some printed documentation.
• Create graphics and videos for use in the documentation.
• Generate documentation source files for localisation. Provide instructions for and support to language translators.
• Actively contribute to the overall planning of software projects. Co-ordinate with Project Manager to develop implementation plans and schedules.
• Assist in the implementation of plans and undertake necessary tasks within software projects to achieve agreed timescales and required quality standards.  
• Actively contribute to the development of product documentation and promote new ideas and technologies
• Provide timely feedback and reports, presenting accurate information, to the Project Manager on project progress, identifying any problem or risk areas.
• Maintain customer and commercial focus on activities at an individual and team level
• Ensure that activities carried out comply with company policies, procedures and systems, including but limited to Data Protection, System Security, Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy and Health & Safety Policy.
• Ensuring activities being undertaken meet the company’s high standards of reliability and quality.
• To maintain positive working relationships with other team members, enthusing and motivating them by being passionate about the Company, your role and well as the organisations products and services.
• Embed the Company values into everyday activities.  
• Maintain a competent level of technical knowledge and skills, keeping abreast of developments in new technologies in relation to product design and gaining a competitive edge.
• To contribute to the team, providing help and support to other team members.
• To communicate effectively with language translators and support them to achieve their objectives

PERSONAL PROFILE

Education & Experience:

• Mechanical/Production Engineering or language degree.
• Experience as a Technical Author in a software/IT based environment beneficial, although would consider a graduate with an appropriate degree looking to start a career in Technical Writing.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM software an advantage.

• Use of Technical Authoring tools (Madcap Flare/Robohelp ideal but not essential)
• Project Management
• Microsoft Office applications
• Software development tools i.e. Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Adobe Acrobat, Camtasia, graphics editing packages
